Biddeford's only seaside dining!
Since 1994, Buffleheads has been tucked away at Hills Beach, providing its loyal diners a wonderful place to enjoy lunch and dinner from March until Thanksgiving. Hills Beach is part of Biddeford, close to Saco, Kennebunkport, and Old Orchard Beach, but far from the crowds and noise. A small restaurant, Buffleheads seats 45 indoors and about 2 dozen more outside on our patio in nice weather.
Buffleheads is owned and operated by Ray and Karen Wieczoreck. Ray has 35 years experience working as a Chef in several fine restaurants in Kennebunkport, including the Cape Arundel Inn, the Kennebunkport Inn, and Seascapes in Cape Porpoise before opening Buffleheads in July of 1994. He also lived in the Sugarloaf area and worked as the Chef at the Trufflehound Restaurant through most of the 1980's.
Karen has worked in restaurants since 1978, even while starting and running the Better Business Bureau in Maine for 9 years. Beginning as a waitress in college, she has also worked in dining rooms and kitchens in and around Kennebunkport and at the Trufflehound at Sugarloaf. She especially enjoys making desserts, which she still does daily at Buffleheads.
When not inside the restaurant, Ray and Karen can usually be found tending the restaurant's gardens (Ray the flowers, Karen the vegetables), which provide an extra treat for Buffleheads visitors.
In the winter, Ray and Karen split their time between sipping smoothies in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, (see the photo) or skiing out west or with old friends at "The Loaf."
